Summary

Cakrawala EV is a student team from Institut Teknologi Bandung, Indonesia. Our team consists of students from various major, such as: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aeronautics Engineering, Industrial Engineering, and Product Design, who are enthusiastic about automotive and look forward to utilize their engineering and design skills to build an automobile.

As one of the product designers in the project, in 2013-2014 we developed “Evelyn”, a single-seater electric vehicle for IEMC (Indonesia Energy Marathon Challenge) competition.

Sketches and ideation for an electric vehicle

Background

As one of the product designers in the project, in 2013-2014 we developed “Evelyn”, a single-seater electric vehicle for IEMC (Indonesia Energy Marathon Challenge) competition.

Process

We designed & built Evelyn from scratch, but heavily influenced from our previous designs. Our goal was to create a better energy efficiency and more lightweight structure than the predecessor. We discussed and refine our ideas and sketches and we come up with the final sketches, and model it in 3D using the Rhinoceros program.

Design

We built Evelyn’s body from scratch with the help of local UAV business called Aeroterrascan. We worked inside their workshop in all production phase; including mockup, molding and prototyping. The car mold were developed using resin applied on top of the styrofoam model. After we’re finished with the model, we combined it with the chassis and propulsion to test it.

Evelyn participated in the Indonesia Energy Marathon Challenge (IEMC) 2014 within the “Urban Mobility” category.

We won the “Best Design” award from the event.
